Dear all,

A whale-watching boat recently took pictures of that seems to be the
birthing of a short-finned pilot whale in Madeira Island (NE Atlantic). The
female was seen rolling and on its side, and a very small calf was seen
next to it. There is one picture were a red membrane can be seen and we
believe it could be the placenta. However, we could not confirm it. We
would appreciate any input from someone with more experience in this area.

The pictures are available at the following link: http://oom.arditi.pt/cet/

Any commentary would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rita Ferreira, MsC
