There's an additional factor not being considered regarding this
"bitterness" which is the reality -- and danger -- of Israeli Jews being
present in occupied Palestine, including in Palestinian communities, even
if they are leftist, to the people living there. If something were to
happen to Amira Hass, whether because some deranged angry guy came and
tried to harm her, irrespective of the views of 99% of the Palestinian
community there, you can see what the political fallout will be. The simple
fact is that by virtue of the occupation, Jewish individuals, including
leftist Jews, have been given a higher human value than Palestinians by the
authorities -- and as a result, they have an incredible level of both
social power and danger, irrespective of their own personal intentions or
support for Palestinian liberation.

This is a matter of privilege that exists in every community where there is
racism. White people that show up and gentrify neighborhoods in the United
States are another example. It does not have to be seen as some kind of
hateful personal attack on their ethnic background (even if it appears that
way) when the communities that are targeted recognize correctly that their
livelihoods are threatened merely by the presence of members of a colonial
society.

That being said I obviously don't think that automatically outweighs all
other considerations, as there are of course legitimate reasons and methods
for Israeli Jews and internationals to be active on the ground in
Palestine. But it is not a concern that should be simply dismissed a priori
as some kind of anti-working class bitterness among the oppressed group. I
think that is jumping the gun.

My 2 cents.
