Yes, "schematic"; that's the word I was looking for. It reminds me of something from my union of many years ago (like about 35 or 40). We had a strike coming up. The executive secretary of our district council had organize what he called a "war room". This was a room in the council offices with a long table and banks of telephones. He had a whole group of his "generals" sitting by the phones, waiting to give out the orders to those who called in. They sat there and waited.... and waited... and waited. But they never got a phone call! That's how cut off they were from the realities on the ground, meaning on the jobs and among the working carpenters.
