Comrades:

I have been trying to translate the communiqué posted by Koldo on 29 August
the best I can to do it. Sorry for the delay, but I have got a lot of work
this week in my job.

My purpose is:
    - Help to the comrades who don't speak Spanish to read this document,
because the outlawing of Batasuna is a very important issue in Spain (is the
frontpage in the newspapers, etc). Above all, is an example of the advance
of the fascism in my country and in Europe, supported by the anti-terrorist
cruzade promoted by Bush and his "war against terrorism".
    - To contribute in my humble possibilities to struggle against that
advance of the fascism.

I don't speak Basque, but in the text there are some words in Basque. I
think these words are translated to English as follow:

- Abertzale: nationalist (in fact, radical nationalist).
- Batasuna: Unity
- Batasuna aurrera: Freedom for Batasuna!
- Euskal Herria: the Basque Country
- Faxismoari: fascism

I don't now what the Anti-imperialist Camp (or perhaps "Field") is.

Against the outlawing of Batasuna: Faxismoari Stop! Batasuna aurrera!

The Garzon-PP-PSOE-european black-lists against terrorism-antiterrorism
imperialist war network commits an outrage against the democratic party
Batasuna, against democracy and peace.

In a plenary session of the Spanish Parliament on 26 August was passed the
outlawing of the Basque pro-indepence party Batasuna. A real anti-Basque
maffia - of the Popular Party, Social-democrat, their instruments of
judicial legitimation with Baltasar Garzon ahead and their media-political
machine and with the accomplice abstention by United Left - has taken this
decision of violent assault against the pro-independence popular Basque
movement, using a new "Law of Parties" passed on 29 July, 2002, designed
with the explicit aim of outlawing Batasuna (and opening the permanent
possibility for outlawing all of the political opposition which thought and
practice goes out of the, tighter every new day, limits of the Spanish
anti-democracy. The "vanguard" (according to the PP) of the anti-Basque
terror, the judge Baltasar Garzon, had just put forward the attack with the
order for immediate closing of the Batasuna offices and activities in the
morning, before the parliamentary meeting (Please, you can read more about
it in Gara: http://www.gara.net/index/P26082002/indexa.php ).

The Spanish State -like the Inquisition- had decreed this use of the divine
word of the anti-terrorist true: 143.000 Basques, 11 per cent of the voters,
are terrorists! Large number of cultural, social, sports, women, and young
people associations, political representatives-elects, from mayors to
members of the Basque Parliament - all of they are terrorists! There is no
doubt
about the Basque people terrorism: they are guilty for terrorizing the
imperialism with their popular organization, their independent thought,
their
non-americanized Basque identity and their direct democracy.

What was the crime commited for Batasuna which has made it terrorist? Only
struggling for democratic conditions for a referendum in which all the
Basque people could in sovereignty decide their political framework for the
future, this is to say an instrument which make possible the free expression
of the Basque majority. To this crime it is added that of it has not
restricted itself to
proclamations and words about "other possible framework", but has built up
in the struggle by diferent democratic ways of Basque popular
conscience-raising, making decisions, and action.

Batasuna also struggle for a new model for the Basque society -a strategic
crime in face of the end of the history- based on the national liberation,
with social equality and Basque popular cultural identity: a Basque
socialism.

Its project for the integral liberation relies on the support of the more
active section of the Basque society, most of all of the youth and the
popular sectors -and of the internationalist solidarity of the
antiimperialists.

But Batasuna was outlawed above all because its democratic consistency,
because it has defended the more elemental right of each people against the
imperialist globalization: the right to the self-determination. This
struggle for the right to the self-determination is not exclusive of
Batasuna and the abertzale left , but a project what relies on the support
of the popular majority in the Basque Country.

Facing this oppressed democratic majority, the reply by the "democratic"
Spanish State is: "The Armed Forces, constituted by the Army, the Navy, and
the Air Force, have got for task to guarantee the Spanish sovereignty and
independence, to defend its territorial entirety and the constitutional
statute." (Spanish Constitution, 8th Article). Or, like it is said by the
Popular Party: "Any sort of referemdum or decission to the independence
don't respect neither the Constitution nor the statute (of auntonomy)"
(Carlos Iturgaiz, Chairman of the Basque Popular Party, El Pais, 4 May,
2002).

We don't become quiet and we are not allow us to be intimidated or to be
become brutalized by the policial movilization of the media. Let the
democratic and critic conscientiousness of every one decide what approach is
more democratic and what proposal contributes in bigger measure to a
pacific, permanent and truthful solution for the conflict: these
authoritarian attitudes or the following approach by ...ETA... for a
cease-fire: "It's no possible to put limits to the people's expression.
Thus, the Spanish State ought to accept and to respect the development of
this democratic proccess and its results, they were that as they may". If
this is support of terrorism, then that they judge us, all together with
everyone who dare to defended the freedom of speech.

We have already listened the voices from the "progresists" - from the
moderate left to the postmoderns - with their totalitarian pro-globalization
anti-nationalism and their interventionist shallow pseudo-pacifism: but the
violence... Those discourses for the legitimation of the imperial policy
are not any news ones. A few months ago they have contributed to destroy the
process for the peace in Colombia, when the FARC were accused for going on
with the armed resistance during the negotiations for the peace. But, when
it was demanded an immediate cease-fire to the terrorist State and their
army and their paramilitary forces? We were told that the guerrilla forces
should to have a better Ethic! The Ethic of the suicide or of the surrender.
In Colombia, it has been closed the prospect for a peace with justice
because the oligarchical State don't want to leave its internal imperialism.
It is refused any peace with democracy for Euskal Herria, because the State
don't want to leave its internal imperialism.

A minimal intelligence, a bit of knowledge about History and an elemental
democratic conscientiousness ought to be enought to realize that, this
politic conflict only can be resolved by admiting:

1.- The people of Euskal Herria like the subject who ought to make the
democratic and sovereign decision.
2.- The principle of self-determination, with a sovereign referendum in
democratic conditions for all the Basques.

We the anti-imperialists declare our solidarity with the struggle by the
Basque Movement of National Liberation and the abertzale left, for the
social transformation of the Basque society in the frame of the process of
national liberation to a new Basque socialist society. Today, this
prospects for the social liberation require the united action from all the
democrats and the upholders of the civil rights, of the human rights and of
the rights of the peoples against the outlawing of Batasuna and for the
recognition of the self-determination of the Basque people.

Finally, we alert about this outlawing of a democratic opposing party, which
is an act without precedents in the recent political European history and
which ought to be a cause for the movilization for all of who have not
sacrificed any minimal democratic conviction to the totalitarian
globalization (it is not important if they legitimate it with discourses of
abstract leftist maximalism or with French rightist), because it is a
paradigmatic example about what can to be the possible application of the
black-lists: the outlawing of the right to the free speech, to the
organization, to the opposition and to the critic.

We call for the movilization protesting in front of the Spanish Embassies
and for demonstrating your solidarity with Batasuna (
[EMAIL PROTECTED] )!

The Anti-imperialist Camp calls in this week to protest in front of the
Spanish Embassies in Austria and Italia, and promotes a large international
protest on 26 October in Brussels for the immediate repeal of the European
black-list about terrorist organizations, and in solidarity with all the
victims of the anti-terrorist cruzade. The outlawing of Batasuna emphazise
the necessity of this struggle!

No to the outlawing of Batasuna!
For the right to self-determination for Euskal-Herria!
Faxismoari Stop! Batasuna aurrera!

Anti-imperialist Camp
