It thinks the Numpy header files are here:

/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/numpy/core/include

are they there and from the right version of Numpy?

When you run python (the same copy you're building with), and import numpy and print "numpy.__version__" does that give the expected version. What does "numpy.__file__" and "numpy.get_version()" give?
