i see it instantiating the trivial view during startup, but i can't figure 
out how to "use" the trivial view.  is there a "type" attribute or something?

i'm pretty lost without config docs, because i don't really have the time to 
read sources to find config things out or configure by trial and error.  is 
there a better way?
