It would be so much better if all softwares and systems were just using UTF and this process would be automated instead of having the user to select from a list. When I work with files, either in TextEdit or in an FTP client, there's always an encoding problem (most of the time, the application tells it can't save or load the file with that encoding, even though I haven't defined one).
