Subject: DC: Creative License talks on sampling & copyright

Creative License: The Law of Culture and Digital Sampling is a compelling new 
book that explores the complexities and contradictions in how music samples are 
licensed within the current copyright landscape. Including interviews with more 
than 100 stakeholders in the sampling community - from David Byrne, Cee-Lo 
Green, George Clinton, De La Soul, DJ Premier, DJ Qbert, Eclectic Method, El-P, 
Girl Talk, Matmos, Mix Master Mike, Negativland, Public Enemy, RZA, Clyde 
Stubblefield and T.S. Monk - Creative License puts digital sampling into an 
historical, cultural, and legal context.

Please join the Washington, DC Chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA for 
"Creative License: Exploring the Music Sampling Marketplace" on Friday, April 
15, 2011.

Professor Peter DiCola from Northwestern University Law School will give a 
lecture and multimedia presentation regarding Creative License: The Law and 
Culture of Digital Sampling. Professor DiCola's lecture will be followed by 
comments from Professor Peter Jaszi of the American University Washington 
College of Law, Jay Rosenthal of the National Music Publishers Association 
(NMPA) and Casey Rae-Hunter, Senior Policy Strategist/Communications Director 
of Future of Music Coalition.

The event will begin with drinks and appetizers at 4pm, followed by a lecture 
by Professor DiCola at 4:30 pm. A live webcast will be available through the
