Launch of THAICOM 4 (IPSTAR) delayed by several days

The upcoming Ariane 5 flight with Thailand's THAICOM 4 (IPSTAR) will experience a short delay because of the discovery of an anomaly with ground equipment used to prepare the launcher at the Spaceport in French Guiana.

Arianespace has decided to perform additional checks with the ground equipment in an operation that should take a few days, leading to an equivalent delay for the liftoff that initially was scheduled for July 11. A new launch date will be announced shortly.

Both the launcher and its payload remain in a safe condition inside the Ariane 5 final assembly building at the Spaceport.

With a mass at liftoff of more than 6,500 kg. (14,000 lb.), THAICOM 4 (IPSTAR) will be the largest commercial telecommunications ever carried into geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). The spacecraft is based on Space Systems/Loral's LS 1300-SX satellite bus, and its hybrid KA/KU-band telecommunications payload will provide broadband relay capacity for direct-to-desktop, last-mile multimedia data and other
