Thanks for the answers so far.

OK, so the last question: there are a couple of W108s around with the 6-cyl 2.8 
M130 engine. This is with mechanical fuel injection. The fuel consumption is 
considerably lower than the 4.5, the engine compartment less crowded, and 
anyway I prefer the six-cylinder to the 8.

Questions:

1. Is the mechanical fuel injection a nightmare? Worse than the D-Jetronic used 
on the 4.5?

2. The M130 engine seems reasonably durable. Anything to be worried about?

3. One last doubt about the 108 platform: how long do kingpins normally last?
