Scientists from the Australian National University say they've located a 248-mile-wide asteroid impact zone in the middle of the continent. Recently published in the journal Tectonophysics, the research details how the meteorite broke in two before it struck Earth and how the geophysicist team found two scars from the impact. Here's the catch: in the hundreds of millions of years since the twin meteorites struck, the crater disappeared under layers of rock.
