Yes, numbers can be deceiving. I talked to a promoter from China the last time I attended the Tucson show a few years ago. He claimed that over a billion dollars will change hands at the Chinese show since it will represent the largest market ever. For a mere $50,000.00 dollars, he could guarantee a table and a translator at the event. I said, "No thanks, I will not spiff anybody $50,000.00 for an unproven event."

I am sure there are a lot of unhappy people that spent billions on authentic glass, genuine Diamonique, artificially created flawless emeralds, heat-treated imitation sapphires or rubies and real iron ore meteorites. All of which, will produce "Gasps of Envy"

On the other hand, I have seen some of this same crap offered at the Tucson show including fake Pallasite slices.

Numbers can be deceiving. One must ask what the percentage of vendors (merchants) hosting booths or showrooms at both China and Tucson events offer meteorites and impact related artifacts, and of them, what percentage are authentic?

Tucson may lose the distinction of being the largest gem and mineral show in the world, but for the interests and purposes of those subscribed to this list, it will never lose the honor of being the BEST show on earth for the meteorite obsessed!

Dear List Members,

I was shocked to hear that the Tucson Gem and Mineral show is no longer the world's largest. It looks like China is in first place with attendance figures of over 380,000 for a four day event in 2015 compared to less than 40,000 for Tucson.

Maybe I should attend this year to add support for this American show that has been running since 1955 while the Chinese show has only existed for a mere 3 years.
