Hi Gary, I give my "gentle" rusters an occasional brushing with a wire brush to remove scale. Then I spray them with Sheath, an excellent preservative that dries relatively quickly and doesn't have a strong odor. Sheath can be found at Gander Mt. (maybe Cabelas). It's used to protect and preserve guns. If I've handed the meteorite around the classroom, afterword I'll wipe the surface with 99-percent isopropyl alcohol (just ask for it at a drugstore. They'll order it. About $2 a bottle.) and then spray with Sheath. So far so good on my irons. Bob
