Care should be taken not to confuse publisher (e.g. Northern Songs,
Boozey and Hawkes) and the label (EMI, Deutsche Gramaphon). Publishers
deal with the rights in compositions; labels issue recordings. An album
may have more than one publisher; a single recording may appear on more
than one label.

It seems to me that your examples concentrate on sites publishing
downloadable or streaming audio files, and that you (or "we",
collectively) haven't examined sites publishing descriptions of
recordings on CD, vinyl or whatever (which would seem to be covered by
both the "problem" statement and the "purpose" on the brainstorming
page, and certainly should be within the scope of this microformat).

Once you do, you'll find plenty of examples of catalogue numbers being
published. For example:

        <http://www.jazzdisco.org/miles/dis/c/>

        <http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PFArchives/DUKLP.htm>

        <http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.553406>

We should also be careful to distinguish /types/ of identifier
(catalogue number, UID, ISBN, Amazon-ASIN, etc.)
