*The Business Process Analysis Working Group (BPAWG) presents:*

"*The Berkeley Desktop Ecosystem*” (description below)

Monday, Nobvember 24, 2014
3:00-4:30pm
150 University Hall

*Presenters:*

*Ben Gross, *Manager, Endpoint Engineering and Infrastructure, IST

*Description:*

The Berkeley Desktop is the campus-wide standard environment for desktops
and laptops. The goal is to provide a reliable, secure, and integrated
administrative computing environment that reduces the amount of time
faculty and staff spend maintaining their computers. A standard environment
combined with automated maintenance should mean fewer problems with overall
better support.

This is all well and good but how do we measure success (or failure, but
hopefully we can avoid that)? Measurement is complicated by the fact that
we want to be able to accurately capture both cost reductions as well as
service improvements in a ecosystems that includes software, hardware, and
services. We have been working on a model for Total Cost of Ownership
(TCO) of campus desktops and laptops. Please join us for a discussion of
how to measure and improve desktop computing on the Berkeley campus and
what this might mean for lowering the cost of providing IT support for
campus.
