I know your pain, but you do not need to endure it.

For those jobs that are more critical than others, or for those that are
more important than others (if not all), enterprise grade scheduling tools
should be used.

At UC Berkeley, our team provides a service to schedule jobs and file
transfers that is available to the all UC teams for use.

If you are interested in having your jobs scheduled or file transfers
executed through the PCSSC tool, please visit our page to learn more about
us, or send me a note and I can put you in touch with the right people.

Cron is a choice that you always have, but we provide 24x7 monitoring, and
other services that may help you sleep (instead of manage job failures
through Daylight Saving Times)!

Happy Scheduling!

*Subject:* [Micronet] DST and Cron/At jobs

Most of you probably are aware of this phenomenon, so I apologize for
the spam.

However, some of you might not and it is important to know and do plan for
it.

As you know, US and most of the world do change time to save money, called
DayLightSaving.

Soon, in California we may take this not so sure saving away, but until
then, let be prepared.

The problem arise when automatic jobs are scheduled via cron or at ( or
other task scheduler) on Sundays, between 2:00 and 3:00 ( and 1:00 - 2:00 ).

When DST occurs, the time is changed and all jobs in these intervals will
be skipped (or repeated).

 - spring (forward) - no jobs will run if scheduled between 2:00 and 3:00

 - autumn (back) - double run of all jobs scheduled between 1:00 and 2:00

Happy croning..
