CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The Institute of Philippine Culture invites new Ph.D. scholars to
apply for a one year fellowship for the year 2013. The fellowship will
provide early career academics and researchers with support to turn
their dissertations into publicly accessible publications, as well as
opportunities to teach and do research in the School of Social
Sciences, Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines).
About the Institute of Philippine Culture
The INSTITUTE OF PHILIPPINE CULTURE is a social science research
organization of the School of Social Sciences of the Loyola Schools,
Ateneo de Manila University. Founded in 1960, the IPC seeks a better
understanding of culture and society in the Philippines and other
Asian countries, an improved quality of life for disadvantaged groups,
and a more peaceful, just, and equitable national and global society.
Who can apply?
Filipinos/non-Filipinos who obtained their doctoral degrees in any of
the Social Sciences from local and foreign universities within the
last 12 months from the time of application, and who have a
dissertation in the English language about the Philippines in any of
the following areas:
? Urban renewal
? Political accountability
? Environmental stewardship
Successful applicants must be available for fellowship period which begins:
? anytime between 1 May and 30 June 2013 (May 2013 cohort) and
? anytime between 1 October and 30 November 2013 (October 2013 cohort).
What does the Fellowship support?
The fellowship provides support for research and publication through:
? A monthly stipend and housing allowance during the fellowship period
of up to 12 months
? Applicable transportation costs to Metro Manila for start and end of
fellowship
? Accident and health insurance during the fellowship period
What does the Fellowship require as output?
? Publication of at least two articles in ISI-listed journals and the
completion of a book manuscript at the end of the fellowship year
? Teaching six units a year in the School of Social Sciences, and
? Participating in the intellectual life of the hosting institutions ?
the Institute of Philippine Culture and the School of Social Sciences.
When is the period of application?
The application period closes on 31 January 2013 for fellowships
starting in May 2013 and on 30 June 2013 for fellowships commencing in
October 2013.
What are the application requirements?
Interested candidates are asked to write a formal letter of
application to the IPC Postdoctoral Fellowships Selection Committee,
enclosing a copy each of the following documents:
a) Accomplished application form (download online from http://www.ipc
ateneo.org/node/116)
b) Curriculum vitae
c) Work plan/timetable for the duration of the fellowship
d) Letter of recommendation from the dissertation supervisor
e) Copy of the dissertation, and
f) Copy of the Ph.D. diploma or academic certificate indicating the
exact date of the granting of the Ph.D. degree.
