The "Mature" development status (http://search.cpan.org/dlsip) is meant to address this. But it's not well integrated on search.cpan.org, in the sense that viewing a distribution page (http://search.cpan.org/author/MJD/Tie-File) doesn't show the DLSIP flags for the modules it contains. Tim.
