This evening there were (eventually) about 650 gulls on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, roosting in the SW corner of the lake on the ice, about 100 - 200 meters out from shore. Highlights included:
Great Black-backed Gull - first cycle bird (new?). I could not find the adult that's beenseen here. Lesser-Black-backed Gull - 1 adult Glaucous Gull - 4 (3 first cycle, 1 adult or near adult). Interestingly, the adult is a different individual from the one seen yesterday at the Burnsville landfill. That one was extremely clean-looking; this one had quite a few markings on its white head and upper breast. Thayer's Gull - at least one adult present and seen well. And , of course, Herring and Ring-billed Gulls.
