I really appreciate mozilla autoconfig, however documentation lacks a lot on it. I hope this unvaluable feature won't be forgotten in future releases ...
Here's a doc I made on this feature which allows you to centralize preferences based on ENV or LDAP variables/attributes:

A community of users have also reported lack of doc/publicity on this feature, there's also a bug report opened on bugzilla about part of theses features (autoadmin.global_config_url -> availabled in netscape) not anymore present in mozilla
