There will never be any legal player able to play an iso-compliant aac
bitstream.
As you may know, Dolby is in charge of aac licencing.
But the licence fees are very high, and they refuse to accord licence to any
iso compliant player or encoder. They want a copy protected bistream, with
if possible some kind of watermarking.
They also charge for any player. As an exemple, Liquid Audio has to pay each
time someone download their free player.
This is why, according to me, working on mp3 is more interesting. At least
players can be free, and there is still room for improvement.
