Hi. A current limitation of LAME is that it does not write VBR headers
correctly. This causes problems when attempting to seek within songs,
due to the lack of seek time information in the VBR files generated by
LAME. Among other things, this causes frustration when attempting to
play VBR files on certain portable devices.

The program "VBRFix" is recommended by many people as a workaround.

The functionality of VBRFix seems straightforward enough. It would be
great to have LAME also do this by default, so that MP3 files are
properly encoded "out of the box". Has anybody already tried to
integrate VBRFix's functionality into LAME? Are there any good reasons
not to do this?

It would be a great project to work on, if there is demand for it. I
will try to find the time to help, if needed.
