The most frightening thing to me is what will it cost to rent the Target
Center for an event after a $30 mil upgrade... the Nader event cost us
$30,000 just for the arena and then there were all the add-ons. To do a
production like that is about $100,000 when all is said and done. Even
though we got great service and had no problems working with Target Center
staff (and using almost 200 volunteers in a Union house), what would it
have cost us under the new scheme. Word was that in Boston the Fleet arena
cost $80,000 to rent. I thought this was a crazy number but I bet the
pricetag to rent The Target Center for a non-basketball game rally, event
or concert will be about the same if this new upgrade happens. Hard to
make any money for your cause when the prices are out of reach.
