With the update naming change which began this month, you can modify all of the
Security Monthly and Cumulative Update ones and bump them en masse using Get
and Set-CMSoftwareUpdate cmdlets. Keep in mind if your maintenance windows are
tight, you’ll need to be careful how high you bump them all up to so they still
fit within the window (including restart countdowns, etc).

$date = Get-Date -UFormat '%Y-%m'
get-cmsoftwareupdate -Name "$date Security Monthly" -Fast |Set-CMSoftwareUpdate
-MaximumExecutionMins 60
get-cmsoftwareupdate -Name "$date Cumulative Update" -Fast
|Set-CMSoftwareUpdate -MaximumExecutionMins 60

My guess: updates are getting bigger and bigger in size. But the default time
to install is 5 minutes. The client will "say" it failed because it took longer
than 5 minutes--but it did install fine. We've started multi selecting the
cumulative os updates in the console, and changing the install guess time to 30
minutes. I haven't checked yet, but after mms I was going to see if someone
wrote a script for that, to change it if size bigger than xx or something like
that. I think there is a uservoice for that, too, to have the default changed.

I see that every month on at least a dozen PCs, and it seems like after a

successful reports.
