GOPIO WHITE PAPER ON INDIANS LIVING IN AMERICA
It has come to our notice that practically all the Indian organizations in
USA are misusing their time, resources and public money to criticize Indian
Leadership and how India should be governed with hardly any constructive work
done for the community. Rather than joining the main stream US Political
Parties they have formed Overseas Wings of different Political Parties of
India. It is an open secret in America that the Democrat & Republicans are the
2 wings of the same bird called American Public still all Indian
organizations think it is fashionable to back Democrats who have yet to give
something to Indians. Looking in the history Democrats removed minority status
for Indians and it was Republican Ronald Reagan who reinstated it. Then it is
current Republican President George Bush who has been celebrating Diwali at
White House for the last 5 years.
There are disturbing reports of Indians being murdered, harassed,
intimidated, brutalized by Police, discriminated and deported all under racial
bias. In a particular incident New Jersey State spent over $100,000.00,
violated every US Law & human right just to deport 1 Indian to save a Police
Constable who was accused by this Indian of brutalizing him after being
handcuffed. In this state the Police Union also called the entire community of
Indian origin, cockroaches, animals, illiterates and illegal go home. These
are the worst ever called Racial Slurs against any minority in the history of
America.
Looking at the importance of America being the most stable country
politically, financially and geographically; all Indian organizations must
unite to bring political representation to Indian-American in US Congress and
find ways to legally increase the population of Indians in America to follow
Jews. 48% of the total world Jewish population lives in America. There are 6.6
million Jews in America as compared to 5.3 million in Israel. With 2%
population in America Jews have 11% representation in US Senate & 8% in US
Congress and have majority control in Main stream Media, Wall Street and
Hollywood. Indian-Americans with 3.25 million population have Zero
representation in US Congress and unfortunately only 40% have taken US
Citizenship.
The Indian Americans have spent over $7 billion on Religious Places and none
of them are capable or have any provisions to provide a roof for under age
children or families in distress. No organization has set up Scholarships for
the less fortunate in the community. Regionalism, factionalism, lack of Unity
among people of Indian origin and apathy towards participation in governance of
America, overall picture of Indians in America is of religiously fanatic Petty
Traders living in USA for money. Indians must Unite and participate in
governance of America to change this image. It is a known fact from the times
of ancient civilizations that everything in human life revolves around politics
and around their government representatives. Unless a significant segment of
1.1% population as Indians represent in America, are properly represented at
the top or senior levels of Local, State and Federal government-where policy is
determined, the budget is distributed, acquisitions,
contracts and jobs are determined-Indians will continue to be ignored,
underserved, abused, intimidated and racially discriminated in America.
It borders on insulting to say that because some Indian-Americans are doing
very well in business and corporate sector, Indians do not need organizations
to protect their Civil Rights. Those who say there is no racism in America are
dead wrong. In May 2007 Al Sharpton 2004 Democrat Presidential candidate said,
As for the one Mormon running for office, those who believe in God will defeat
him any way, so dont worry about that. This prompted the Republican
Presidential hopeful a Mormon by religion Mitt Romney to reply, I can only,
hearing that statement, wonder whether theres bigotry in America. Another
Presidential hopeful Republican Mike Hukabee a former Christian Baptist
Minister said in an interview to Times magazine, Dont Mormon believes that
Jesus and the devil are brothers? Certainly it is bigotry. The Jewish
controlled majority main stream media has been trashing Romney for over a year
for being a Mormon without highlighting his fairly huge achievements and
experience of governance. Under these circumstances and reported incidents
Indian organizations in America must protect the Civil Rights, Basic Human
Rights and dignity of people of Indian origin living in USA.
We at GOPIO India appeal to all US-Indian organizations to also start
Scholarships for the less fortunate students, homes for senior citizens, home
for youth with personal problems and homes for battered women to start with for
people of Indian origin living in America. Later on expanding these facilities
to all Americans. They must educate the community that charity starts from
home, adopt a child or a family among their own relatives, friends in USA or
India and try to bring their standard of living matching to their own life
style. Indians living in America must take pride for being American by becoming
citizens and must try to participate in the Governance of America at community,
local, state or Federal Level. They must understand America belongs to them
also along with others from the different parts of the world.

Dear Gupta Ji, Namaskar. As requested by you enclosed is the write up on
Indians in America. I hope you will give the same to Media, private &
government organizations in India. It is my humble request that all of you must
confront the so called Indian Leadership from America attending Pravasi
Bhartiya Diwas, International Punjabi Diwas and International GOPIO in Delhi
and Punjab to know what really they have done for the people of Indian origin
especially the less fortunate, living in America. I sincerely hope NRI Minister
Vyalar Ravi is not going to repeat the same mistake of 2006 by selling the
Pravasi Bhartiya Award to the highest bidder.
