What we do is have two AssemblyInfo files. One called AssemblyInfoCommon that we link to all projects in a solution. This has static info like company name, copyright, etc. Then we have one that gets genned by the build with just AssemblyVersion and AssemblyFileVersion in it. You could do a similar thing. Have a static one with your Assembly COM id... this way you don't need to put it into your build files.
