Activists protest liquor sales

American Indian activists are giving notice to four bars
and a grocery store in the tiny border town of Whiteclay, Nebraska. They're
telling them to shut down within 30 days.

About 80 people marched from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South
Dakota to Whiteclay in the third such rally in three weeks.

The marchers drummed and sang during the two-mile walk from Pine Ridge.
They marched into Whiteclay and posted signs on the town's five businesses
where liquor is sold demanding that the businesses close.

The businesses sell an estimated $3-million worth of alcohol each year,
mostly to American Indians living on the reservation.

Activists are protesting the alcohol sales, as well as alleged treaty
violations and two unsolved murders on the reservation.

The grocery store targeted Saturday was the same store that was burned and
looted during a rally on June 26th.
