I think you need to make some "realistic" examples and then compare. But this is out of the scope of this discussion. We need/should know where we have performance bottlenecks and should strive to have less of them in the code *we* control. We do not control Tcl so we can't speed this up. But we could speed up the server alone, if it is somewhere "broken" i.e. slow.
