Basic Doctrines of the Christian Faith -Part 1 1) The Holy Scriptures The Holy Scriptures are the inspired Word of God, authoritative,
inerrant, and God-breathed
(2Ti 3:15-17 KJV)
And
that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,
which are able to make thee wise unto salvation
through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
(16)
All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine,
for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:
(17)
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good
works.
(2Pe 1:20-21
KJV)
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.
(21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man:
but
holy men of God spake as they were
moved by the Holy Ghost.
(Mat 5:17-18 KJV)
Think not that I
am come to destroy the law, or the prophets:
I am not come to
destroy, but to fulfil.
{18} For verily
I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass,
one jot or
one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be
fulfilled.
(John 16:12-14 KJV)
I have yet
many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
{13} Howbeit
when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all
truth:
for he
shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he
speak:
and he
will show you things to come.
{14} He
shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto
you.
2) The Godhead
One Triune God exists in
three Persons- Father, Son and Holy Spirit- eternal in being, identical in
nature, equal in power and glory and having the same attributes and perfections
(Deu 6:4-5 KJV)
Hear, O
Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
{5} And thou
shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart,
and with all thy
soul, and with all thy might.
(2 Cor 13:14 KJV)
The grace of the
Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the
communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.
3) The Total Depravity of
Man
Man was created in the
image and likeness of God but in Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful
nature, became alienated from God, and is totally unable to retrieve his lost
condition.
(Gen 1:26-27 KJV)
And God
said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
and let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,
and over the
cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon
the earth.
{27} So God
created man in his own image,
in the
image of God created he him; male and female created he
them.
(Rom 3:22-24 KJV)
Even the
righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ
unto all and
upon all them that believe:
for there is no
difference: {23} For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
{24} Being
justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ
Jesus:
(Rom 5:12 KJV)
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by
sin;
and so
death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
4a) The Person of
Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ, the
eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived
of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal
God and redeem sinful man; that He accomplished our redemption through His
spiritual death on the Cross as a substitutionary sacrifice; that our redemption
is made sure to us by His literal physical resurrection from the
dead.
(John 1:1-4,14
KJV)
In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.
{2}
The same was in the beginning with God.
{3} All
things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
{4} In him
was life; and the life was the light of men....
{14} And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us,
(and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of
grace and truth.
(Luke 1:35 KJV)
And the
angel answered and said unto her,
The Holy Ghost
shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:
therefore also
that holy thing which shall be born of thee
shall be called
the Son of God.
(Rom 3:24-25 KJV)
Being
justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ
Jesus:
{25} Whom
God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood,
to declare his
righteousness for the remission of sins that are past,
through the
forbearance of God;
(Rom 4:25,
5:1.2 KJV)
Who
was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our
justification.
{5:1 KJV}
Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
{2} By
whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand,
and rejoice in
hope of the glory of God.
(1 Pet 1:3-5 KJV)
Blessed be the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
which according
to his abundant mercy
hath begotten us
again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
{4} To an
inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away,
reserved in
heaven for you,
{5} Who are kept
by the power of God
through faith
unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
4b) The Work of Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is now in heaven,
exalted at the right hand of God, where, as the High Priest for His people, He
fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate.
(Heb 9:24
KJV)
For
Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands,
which are
the figures of the true;
but into
heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for
us:
(Heb 7:24-26 KJV)
But this
man,{Jesus Christ}, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable
priesthood.
{25} Wherefore
he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him,
seeing he ever
liveth to make intercession for them.
{26} For
such an high priest became us,
who is holy,
harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners,
and made
higher than the heavens;
(Rom 8:34-39 KJV)
Who is he
that condemneth?
It is
Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again,
who is even at
the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for
us.
{35} Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword?
{36} As it is
written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long;
we are accounted
as sheep for the slaughter.
{37} Nay,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
{38} For I am
persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor powers, nor
things present, nor things to come,
{39} Nor height,
nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be
able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
(1 John 2:1-2
KJV)
My little
children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.
And if any man
sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
{2} And he is
the propitiation for our sins:
and not for ours
only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
