Even if you cannot upgrade to it, testing with 5.4 (or even a CVS MAIN snapshot) would still clarify if the problem has already been fixed in CVS or not. If it has been, it'll only be a matter of identifying the corresponding change in the ChangeLog and extracting the patch. If it still segfaults with current CVS, you'll need to work with us to identify the bug and *write* a patch.
