MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
confirmed on Tuesday Moscow’s invariable stance on the status of Kosovo. All
issues concerning the Kosovo settlement must be settled on the basis of U.N.
Security Council resolution 1244, Lavrov said after talks with his Montenegro’s
counterpart Milan Rocen.

“We discussed in detail the Balkan issue,” the foreign minister said.
“Complicated processes are underway in the Balkans, and one of the most thorny
is the issue of Kosovo,” Lavrov stressed.

He said Russia was in favour of the settlement of all issues concerning the
Kosovo settlement on the basis of U.N.SC resolution 1244, which remains fully
valid.

“Mutually acceptable agreements can and must be found within the framework of a
dialogue that must begin between Belgrade and Pristina upon a decision of the
U.N. General Assembly,” he said.

In line with the U.N. Security Council resolution 1244, the autonomous province
of Kosovo is part of former Yugoslavia and its legal successor on the
international arena – Serbia. This is stated in the fundamental law of Serbia.
