ILLEGAL ALIEN SONG-AND-DANCE
by Chuck Muth
July 11, 2004

Wanna know why so many Americans are so damned agitated with the illegal immigration
problem in this country? Give me just 22 minutes and you’ll have your answer.

First and most importantly, the federal government - which is responsible for border
security and enforcement - isn’t doing its job. Period. It’s one of the few
legitimate responsibilities of the federal government...and they’re just not doing it.
That’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. The fact that there are between 8 and 10 million
illegal aliens (or more) in the country today is all the proof one needs that the feds
have dropped the ball...using Dick Cheney’s words...big time.

However, last month a new crack team of Border Patrol agents identified and arrested
over 400 illegal aliens who they found in sweeps throughout Southern California.
About time. But this successful and long-overdue enforcement operation was
immediately blasted by radical immigration activists and the folks who carry their
water in Congress, led by Rep. Joe Baca (D-Mexico City). They pitched one hellacious
hissy fit to the folks over at Homeland Security.

And lo and behold, the “interior” sweeps (enforcement inside the country, as opposed
to at the border) have come to a grinding halt. Just when we thought the country
might finally be getting serious about dealing with this problem, the left yelled
“boo” and the administration retreated faster than the French army encountering a Girl
Scout troop.

Yes. That retreat in and of itself is truly infuriating. But if you REALLY want to
get your blood boiling, get a load of this.

Asa Hutchison is the Under Secretary for
Border & Transportation Security at the Department of
Homeland Security. He appeared on the John & Ken show (KFI-640 AM in Los Angeles)
recently to discuss the cessation of the interior illegal alien sweeps. And if you
really want to understand why so many people hate - and I don’t use that word lightly
- hate government bureaucrats and mealy-mouthed politicians, take a listen to this
22-minute interview.

If you thought Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire were expert song-and-dance men, you ain’t
seen nothing yet.

Hutchinson, shucked, jived, zigged, zagged, tap danced, dodged...and simply refused to
answer straight, simple questions about this matter with straight, simple answers.
This guy could be the poster child for the word “evasive.” The last five minutes or
so of the show consists of the host all but begging Hutchinson to give a simple “yes”
or “no” answer to a very simple “yes” or “no” question. Hutch never did.

Really, folks. You gotta listen to this interview. I have friends who I highly
regard and respect who think I’m completely off the reservation on this issue. But
after listening to this interview, I’m more convinced now than ever that THEY are the
ones who just don’t “get it.” If they want me/us/the nation to consider all these
amnesty bills being floated around Congress, they’d better start doing a better job of
addressing the very basic concerns and questions posed to Hutchinson (and not answered
by him) in this interview.

Anyway...pop a Lipitor and surf over to the link below to listen to the interview for
yourself.

DECLARATION AUTHOR ON UNCONTROLLED IMMIGRATION

“[Is] rapid population [growth] by as great importations of foreigners as
possible...founded in good policy? . . . They will bring with them the principles of
the governments they leave, imbibed in their early youth; or, if able to throw them
off, it will be in exchange for an unbounded licentiousness, passing, as is usual,
from one extreme to another. It would be a miracle were they to stop precisely at the
point of temperate liberty. These principles, with their language, they will transmit
to their children. In proportion to their number, they will share with us the
legislation. They will infuse into it their spirit, warp and bias its direction, and
render it a heterogeneous, incoherent, distracted mass... If they come of themselves,
they are entitled to all the rights of citizenship: but I doubt the expediency of
inviting them by extraordinary encouragements."

- Thomas Jefferson
