One can also try to instead use the accent mechanism instead of a stacker:

% engine=luatex

\definemathtopaccent[widebar] ["0305]

\startTEXpage[offset=3pt]
$\overbar{OA}$

$\widebar{OA}$
\stopTEXpage

The \widebar is defined (almost) like that in lmtx.
