I just tried a standalone on a xubuntu virtual machine. I had no
problems with
/data/temp/test/test.tex: (also copied one level lower)
\starttext
\typefile{/data/temp/test.tex}
\typefile{/data/test.tex}
\stoptext
So, I'm a bit puzzled.
