1. I think you have to redefined the \doverbatimspace command.

\appendtoks
   \unexpanded\def\doverbatimspace{\hskip\zeropoint\char32\hskip\zeropoint}%
\to \everyenableelements

2. You have to put this code block *before* \setuptagging.
