I uploaded a beta. The most significant (visible) change is in the way
mp handles outlines. Here are some examples:

the graphictext macro will also use this method.
If you want a nice view on a font you can say:
\useMPlibrary[outlines]
\showshape[character=a,alternative=page]
\stoptext
or for a whole font:
\setupbodyfont[pagella]
\showshape[character=all,alternative=page]
or
\definedfont[almfixed]
\showshape[character=all,alternative=page]
Another change is a much faster reload of fonts database but as that
doesn't happen often it might go unnoticed.
