SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER STILT SANDPIPER GREAT EGRET MISSISSIPPI KITE (Extralimital) Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 7/22: A variety of shorebirds were found in the complex on this day. Along the wildlife drive PECTORAL SANDPIPER, SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and probable SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were found. At May’s Poitn PondGREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LEAST SANDPIPER, STILT SANDPIPER, and GREAT EGRET were found. Oneida County ------------ 7/22: At Verona Marsh 30 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 6 spotted sandpipers were found. On the 25th. 2 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS were found in the same lacation. Verona Marsh is on the south side of Rt. 31 just under a mile west of the intersection with Rt. 365. Extralimital ------------ There was only one report of the MISSISSIPPI KITES this week but it was from yesterday (7/26) so it appears at least one of the birds is still in that area. These birds are being seen in the Town of Root south of the Canajoharie thruway exit in Montgomery County. Take Rt. 10 south to Mapletown Road. Go left (east) about 3.5 miles to Donato Road.
