On 12/10/10 I was at Sunken Meadow St.Pk. about 8AM. It was doggone frosty but
no joy. Norm Klein showed and showed me the locations and times the Hermit
Warbler was seen. Then Debra Allen, Randy Schutz and Peter Haskil arrived from
NYC. We all had no joy with the Hermit Warbler.

Then I ran into the threesome on the west end of Jones Beach and we had no luck
on the Nature Center boardwalk for the Shrike. We did see Black Ducks (Randy
ID) landing in the distance from the boardwalk. Randy pointed out Gannets
flying near shore but it was much too far for my eye. Earlier Randy pointed out
2 American Oyster Catchers and a nice flock of Dunlin among other common
species closer to the Coast Guard Station. That was a nice observation.

I intended to bird NYC but saw billboard sized warnings of Gridlock so took an
expedient route out of town. Now I wonder if that was just the mass transit
people drumming up business for themselves and causing me to miss a chance at
the Varied Thrush et al.
