Jones Beach & Pt. Lookout 8 Dec. I joined Joe Giunta's 200 Challenge Group for an end of season birding trip to the beach. Weather cold and very windy. Highlights included an exceptionally late PIPING PLOVER in the swale at Jones Beach West End 2 and a male HARLEQUIN DUCK at PT. LOOKOUT. The COMMON EIDER flock continues there. Only several BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen, but from both sides of the inlet.
