Hi everyone,

Ron and Ben Barkley and I visited some spots today around the Nassau

The Tufted Duck was still frequenting Saint John's Pond in Cold Spring Harbor
(Nassau/Suffolk co.) as of this morning. No Eurasian Wigeon on the pond today.

A check of the jetties at Point Lookout (Nassau co.) revealed few gulls, likely
thanks to a strong onshore wind. About fifty gulls were gathered in the Point
Lookout State Park parking lot (of Grace's Warbler fame)  and quite a few were
also at the Jones Beach jetty across the inlet.

Speaking of gulls, there are still hundreds of gulls frequenting the Norman
Levy preserve (the landfill) off the Meadowbrook Parkway in Merrick (Nassau
co.). The park took a hit from Sandy and was closed as of a couple of weeks
ago, but they were planning to reopen "mid-late January." Gulls may also be
viewed with luck from the baseball field area just immediately to the east of
the landfill, where there is a small Monk Parakeet colony (two there today) in
the stadium lights.

No Barrow's at Jamaica Bay (at low tide) today. And the murre in the Dead Horse
Bay area was not visible from the beach south of the marina across the road
from Floyd Bennett Field (Brooklyn).

Best,
