For folks still interested in ticking some of the rarities/goodies on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay.
The Black-bellied Whistling-Duck (BBWD), continued today north of the Raunt on the west side of the Pond. It was tucked in with a mashup of duckage and Canada Geese. The White-faced Ibis continued up at the Northend of the Pond. It was feeding comfortably with Glossy Ibis’ until a Peregrine Falcon made a run at a Glossy Ibis. I setup to grab video, thinking I might witness a take down as the Peregrine smacked the Glossy Ibis with 2 passes. But the plucky Glossy Ibis was not going down today and somehow mustered up the courage to finally take off instead of just trying to “duck“ the attack. No Long-billed Dowitchers seen today but I could have missed them or they have departed. 2 Pectoral Sandpipers continue and the number of Stilt Sandpipers hold steady at 31. Overall, shorebird numbers seemed down from Sunday. Other notables include the continuing drake Lesser Scaup, a young flyover Royal Tern, a couple of Purple Martins, summering Ruddy Ducks and an adult Gull-billed Tern! It’s great to see so many folks coming out to enjoy the birds that are showing up on the Pond. Let’s hope for more birds and…people too 👍 Cheers, -------- “Tenderness and Kindness are not signs of weakness and despair but manifestations of strength and resolution” ~ Khalil Gibran "I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence." ~ Frederick Douglass 風 Swift as the wind 林 Quiet as the forest 火 Conquer like the fire 山 Steady as the mountain Sun Tzu The Art of War > (\__/) > (= '.'=) > (") _ (") > Sent from somewhere in the field using my mobile device!
