Highlights: Blue-headed & Red-eyed Vireos, very early Black-and-white and Yellow Warblers, Red-breasted Nuthatch, White-throated Sparrow. The Blue-headed Vireo is the first for the fall season in Central Park and a record early fall arrival date for the location. Red-breasted Nuthatches arrived June 29th. Canada Goose - 26 including 6 birds hatched this year. Mallard - 2 Lake Mourning Dove - 8 Herring Gull - 3 flyovers Double-crested Cormorant - 3 Black-crowned Night-Heron - 1 adult Upper Lobe Red-tailed Hawk - 3 (young have fledged from the now-empty nest in the SW Pinetum) Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 uphill from the Boathouse Cafe Downy Woodpecker - 4-6 Northern Flicker - 2 (uphill from Boathouse, Bow Bridge/Warbler Rock) American Kestrel - flyover Balancing Rock/Captain's Bench Great Crested Flycatcher - 2 young still in nest, 1 fledgling (Sandra Critelli after lunch) Eastern Kingbird - young fed in nest at Turtle Pond (another nest on the Point) Blue-headed Vireo - early date - Laupot Bridge/Gill Overlook (Sandra Critelli & others 3:45pm) Warbling Vireo - 3 Red-eyed Vireo - 1 Upper Lobe Blue Jay - 6-9 Barn Swallow - 1 Great Lawn Cedar Waxwing - 2-3 Upper Lobe Red-breasted Nuthatch - arrived June 29 (2 birds), July 2 (3 birds) with 1 today at the Pinetum Gray Catbird - 4-6 including nest with young at Tupelo Field Brown Thrasher - 1 Humming Tombstone (Karen Evans, Peter Haskel, Dan Stevenson) Northern Mockingbird - 1 flyover Boathouse American Robin - adults, nests, juveniles House Finch - 3 White-throated Sparrow - 1 Tupelo Field Baltimore Oriole - 3 on Saturday 7/3/22 (Bob) Red-winged Blackbird - 5 Common Grackle - 5-7 Black-and-white Warbler - 1 adult male Bow Bridge (Bob & Deb - early), also seen 6/26/22 Yellow Warbler - 1 female Humming Tombstone (Bob & Deb - early) - species nests in NY County Northern Cardinal - 5-8 Deb Allen
