Two Red-necked Phalaropes were seen and well-photographed off Manhattan
island’s Pier 57 area - which is a short way north of the
now-very-popular attraction Little Island, near shore in the Hudson River
estuary. Thanks to Ian Bell for the find, as well as others who relayed
reporting and who came as dusk arrived to catch up with this quite-rare for New
York County (within which is all of Manhattan and more) species. It is at
least slightly possible the birds are still in that vicinity, and in any event
a further report will be forthcoming.

Good birding to all,

Tom Fiore
