The next North Shore Audubon Society (NSAS) general meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at 7pm via Zoom. The program, *Studying and Identifying Waterfowl on Long Island, *will be presented by Professor *Shai Mitra* of the College of Staten Island. All are welcome.
Please use the following link to pre-register: https://bit.ly/45vniCO This talk will survey some of the many places on Long Island where waterfowl can be studied, with special attention devoted to identifying difficult plumages and similar species, and to understanding the distributions of scarce and local species. Similarities and differences between the North and South Shores, and between western and eastern Long Island will also be discussed, with tips on how to tailor one’s field approach by region and season. *Shai Mitra *has studied birds in the northeastern United States and around the world for more than 40 years.He received a BA in Biology from Cornell University in 1989 and a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Chicago in 1996. From 1996-2000 he operated a major bird-banding station at the Fire Island Lighthouse, on the South Shore of Long Island. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the College of Staten Island, with research interests in the areas of avian ecology, evolution, and conservation.
