Subject: New Non-WG Mailing List: id-align (Identity Alignment)
To: IETF Announcement List <ietf-annou...@ietf.org>
Cc: <rifaat.s.i...@gmail.com>, <dick.ha...@gmail.com>, <id-al...@ietf.org>

A new IETF non-working group email list has been created.

List address: id-al...@ietf.org
Archive: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/browse/id-align/
To subscribe: https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/id-align

Purpose:
When asked for a definition of identity, most people will offer a
definition that they believe will be well understood by others, but few of
the definitions will have significant overlap. This lack of alignment on
the term identity extends to other terms of art, leading to confusion.

In the multi-cloud era, any secure solution must have clear end-to-end
identity mechanisms that span all identity layers: user, device, and
workload. The rise of zero-trust requires well-defined identity solutions
that enable the enforcement of the least-privilege principle. Executive
orders and various regulations around cybersecurity are increasingly
putting identity and privacy in the spotlight.

The goal of this mailing list is to discuss how to align identity related
work being done in the IETF.

Specific alignment would include:
• Collecting existing terminology and making it broadly available so that
terms start to be used consistently.
• Raising awareness of identity related work between identity related work
streams

This list belongs to IETF area: SEC
