Neil, I don't see an obvious reason why this configuration should be considered "invalid". (Consider a case where the / filesystem is ext2, and /d0/baz is ocfs2. Would you expect that to cause issues? I would not.)
If you'll humor my two cents, though, I don't like this sort of thing. If you - or another sysadmin - somehow mounts these LUNs to their mount points out of order, chaos may ensue.
