OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE MONDAY OCTOBER 27 AT 11 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

A slow week for bird reports due to the persistent wet weather but
there were a few noteworthy sightings.

An adult male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, the first report of this species
for the season, was found at Remic Rapids on October 27. Brant
continue to be reported in small numbers. 3 were at Moodie Dr and
Barnsdale Rd on the 26th and a single bird was at Remic rapids on
the 22nd along with a Red-breasted Merganser. Also on the 22nd, a
Long-eared Owl was found in the woods at the end of Clyde Ave but
was not relocated the following day.

On the 25th at Andrew Haydon Park there were 2 Common Loons, 1
Red-necked Grebe, increasing numbers of Greater and Lesser Scaup,
6 Black Scoters, 10 Surf Scoters and 8 White-winged Scoters.

A Carolina Wren briefly visited a feeder on Higgins Rd near the
Pinecrest Cemetery during the past week and approximately a dozen
Pine Grosbeaks were seen on Arizona Ave last week as well. No
specific dates were provided for these sightings.

The latest report from the Innes Point Bird Observatory comes from
October 25. A record high number of 115 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS
has been banded since September 27.

Thank-you. Good birding.
