Dear users and developers, this is to announce that with immediate effect I will be discontinuingwork on the OpenCA development branch in favor of a new project called OpenXPKI. This announcement will not affect the stable branch of OpenCA 0.9.2.
We discussed the future of OpenCA at the OpenCA workshop this week and came to the conclusion that due to project management issues it is time to restart. We decided to call the project OpenXPKI. OpenXPKI is a completely community-based approach that is not under control of a single person (as OpenCA currently is), but rather of a board of people that will be elected from developers and users. There will be a project foundation that defines all project and management related issues.
OpenXPKI will contain everything that was planned for OpenCA 0.9.3, and in fact there are already some developers actively working on the project. Interested users and developers will find the project at
http://developer.berlios.de/projects/openxpki/ The main project web site is http://www.openxpki.org (may be not yet accessible everywhere due to DNS propagation latency and currently under reconstruction)Discussion about features of the new OpenXPKI project will solely take place on the OpenXPKI-devel and OpenXPKI-users Mailing Lists which have already been set up on the Berlios project site.
Important note to all OpenCA 0.9.2 users: -----------------------------------------Please note that maintenance work on the stable OpenCA 0.9.2 branch will continue at least as long as OpenXPKI is not ready for production use, so there is no need to worry about your existing installations. The support will still be there.
