To ease the proxy nightmare, use cntlm as a local proxy and use it for all proxy connections.
One additional program, but It speeds up proxied connections in browsers as well because it authenticate to the main proxy one time and hold this connection. Normally every connection is authenticated at the main proxy. So have a look at it, its worth.
