Krita, the KOffice image editing application (http://koffice.kde.org/krita)
now supports OpenEXR. At the moment we can only import OpenEXR images, not
export to OpenEXR, and some Krita filters don't yet work on OpenEXR, but work
on resolving both is in progress. Oh, and similar to most other applications
that support OpenEXR that I have seen, we only really support scanline basied
images.

Look at
http://www.valdyas.org/fading/index.cgi/hacking/krita/posthackathon.html
for screenshots.

Thanks for the cool library!
